Estate Documents vs Estate Plan

Do you have an estate plan or merely estate planning documents?  There is a difference.  Many individuals and families we meet have explained what they want for their estate plan and then show us their estate documents.  There often times is a big disconnect.  What they hope will happen is not at all what has been put into place to happen.

We are not attorneys; we do not write legal documents and we highly encourage individuals and families to have their estate planning documents written by an attorney.  However, far to often we find people with estate documents that do not meet their current estate planning goals.  In fact, they may have perfect documents, but through their own inaction their estate will not be distributed per their estate documents.
